Solution 04

Geospatial AI & Custom R&D

We develop geospatial AI (GeoAI) methods for image analysis, reference data generation and project-specific processing workflows.

The challenge

Your data and requirements may outgrow standard tools

A method that works on one dataset may not transfer to another sensor, region or object type. Custom development needs a clear target, representative data and a way to evaluate whether the result is useful in the intended workflow.

Our approach

Turn an open question into a testable workflow

We assess technical feasibility, prepare the data and develop methods against agreed evaluation criteria. Depending on the task, the solution may use image processing, machine learning or generative models.

  • Image analysis and object extraction
  • Reference and training data production and quality assessment
  • Project-specific algorithms and processing pipelines
  • Analysis tools and integration with existing systems

Example deliverables

From feasibility evidence to working components

Each stage has a defined output, evaluation approach and decision about the next step.

Feasibility studies

A technical assessment of the problem, available data, candidate methods and evidence needed before further development.

Reference & training data

Task-specific datasets with annotation guidance, quality checks and documented coverage and limitations.

Algorithms & prototypes

Agreed processing components or demonstrators, accompanied by evaluation results and a record of unresolved limitations.

Tools & pipelines

Custom analysis workflows, interfaces and integration components, with the documentation needed for the agreed handover.

Selected R&D

GenCP

Generative AI for geospatial reference data

Research prototype

Nexa Geo contributes to GenCP, an ESA-supported research study exploring generative AI for producing synthetic reference image chips from vector maps.

The proof-of-concept work investigates their use in satellite image georeferencing and geometric calibration and validation.

Methods & data

Evaluate beyond a convincing demonstration

We work with imagery and other spatial datasets relevant to the task. Method development can include feature extraction, classification, object detection, data fusion and scientific processing workflows.

Data rights, label quality, class coverage and differences between development and application data affect what can be achieved. We define evaluation data and metrics around the intended use, and document where further validation is needed.

Suitable projects

Add focused development capacity to your team

  • Satellite and data companies developing analysis capabilities
  • R&D teams testing methods or building technical prototypes
  • Engineering consultancies needing custom geospatial analysis tools
  • Software teams integrating spatial processing into existing systems

We agree the development scope, operating environment, interfaces and handover requirements before implementation.
